Literacy & Autism: Virtual Panel Discussion

Join MILE, The Reading League Maryland, and Autism Society Maryland for an insightful panel discussion on improving literacy outcomes for students on the autism spectrum. As Maryland’s State Board of Education enacts a Comprehensive PreK-3 Literacy Policy, structured literacy instruction is taking center stage in education. But what does this mean for students with autism? How can educators adapt their strategies to best support these learners in developing essential literacy skills?

Moderated by Veronica Kang, PhD, Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland College Park, this session brings together a panel of experts, including researchers and practitioners, to explore effective literacy practices for students with autism. Our panelists include Megan Fleury, M.Ed. (Instructional Specialist, Infants & Toddlers), Seyma Intepe Tingir, PhD (Clinical Professor, University of Maryland College Park), Lauri Silver, M.S. (Instructional Facilitator), Toni Simmons, M.S. (Speech-Language Pathologist), Sarah Cooper, M.Ed. (Special Educator), and Stephanie Carr, M.S. (Educational Consultant and Parent).

This event is perfect for educators, parents, and professionals seeking strategies to improve reading instruction for students with autism. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from leading experts and engage in meaningful discussions.
