Jade Wexler Shares Expertise on Department of Ed With WMAR 2 News
Dr. Jade Wexler, MILE’s Associate Director for Research, shared her expertise on education policy in a recent article from WMAR 2 News, an ABC news station serving the Baltimore Area.
In the article, titled “What would it look like if the Department of Education was eliminated?” Dr. Wexler shared her expertise on the subject matter. She explained that critical laws such as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) are independent of the Department of Education and would remain in place as long as Congress continues to fund them.
However, Dr. Wexler raised concerns about the challenges states might face without federal oversight, particularly in ensuring equal educational opportunities for all students. These insights align with MILE’s mission to provide equitable educational opportunities for Marylanders at all stages of life.
