MILE Celebrates Another Successful Advocacy Day

Another successful Advocacy Day wrapped up on February 19th, 2025, as 19 MSU students, 18 UMD students, and 9 faculty and staff members traveled to the Maryland State House to advocate for literacy policy. Students attended 35 appointments with and left countless one-pagers with Maryland legislators.

The group, a collaboration between Karabelle Pizzigati Initiative in Advocacy for Children, Youth and Families and MILE, enjoyed lunch provided by MSEA, with a keynote from Pickett Slater Harrington, Director of Governor Moore’s ENOUGH Initiative.

Brandi Slaughter, with the support of Graduate Assistant Grace Galumje, led the charge on event preparation, organizing student trainings to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively advocate for literacy policy.
